Behind the Scenes: Iconic Cocktail Co. Partnership

If you haven’t already heard, our summer menu recently made its debut – our first new menu in 13 years! We’re thrilled to be able to offer food and beverage items that celebrate flavors of the southwest while remaining focused on specialty coffee, our area of expertise.

In creating this new menu, we made it a goal to incorporate items from other local suppliers to showcase their craft and advance our creations as well. One of the local businesses we collaborated with was Iconic Cocktail Co., and with their mixers, we concocted two tasty beverages we’re proud to serve. Using Iconic’s Lime Leaf Tonic, espresso, seltzer, and grapefruit, we came up with the Iconic Tonic; then, incorporating their Bitter Orange Tonic, cold brew, and seltzer, the Lazy Saturday was produced. Both of these items have shown to be crowd pleasers among Cartel customers following the launch.

We had the chance to (virtually) sit down with Owner Kaylee Farrow, and learn more about who Iconic is and how they got started. Her now husband, Matt, was a seasoned bartender and Kaylee was in search of a project. Beginning as a bar service catering company, they had the goal of elevating the bar experience with Iconic cocktails – and that, they did.

At our very first catering event, we decided to bottle up a homemade grenadine that was in one of our cocktails,” said Kaylee. “At the end of the event, we passed the bottles out and encouraged guests to recreate the cocktail at home. That idea of having a product really intrigued us and we pivoted right then and there and started developing our line of mixers.”

Iconic’s line of high-end products and support for their local community made the decision to work with them easy. As a way to showcase Arizona’s offerings, the couple works with local farmer McClendon’s Select for their Rio Red grapefruits, Meyer lemons, and Lisbon lemons. They also partner with Crockett’s Honey in Tempe, obtain locally foraged prickly pears, and work with Mount Hope in Camp Verde for a variety of spices.

“Cartel Coffee Lab has such an incredible reach and they are a perfect example of what a growing business looks like in Arizona. They're in all kinds of neighborhoods and communities and continue to make strides within their own company to be the best version of themselves,” Kaylee said. “We take pride in that as well at Iconic and it's exciting to partner with a brand with aligned values. Oh, and the coffee is just as amazing as the culture they've created! We're excited to come together to reach new people and introduce them to another way of enjoying our cocktail mixers.”

If you’re interested in purchasing Iconic products, there are many different mediums for you to do so.

We have our website that is always stocked with our mixers and we ship nationwide. We also partner with some incredible accounts around the valley that have helped us get where we are today. UrbAna in Arcadia and Scottsdale Quarter are almost always stocked up with every flavor as well as Frances Vintage in Central Phoenix. If you wanna see our mixers behind the bar and try them in some craft cocktails, you can find us at Clever Koi or Arizona Wilderness.”

To celebrate this new partnership, we’re giving away a four pack of Cartel Cold Brew and a bottle of Iconic Bitter Orange Tonic, the perfect combination for your 4th of July get-together. See our Instagram post about the giveaway for more details! @cartelcoffeelab
