Meet Laurel! They're the Roasting Supervisor at our Tempe location. Take a moment to learn more about this fantastic human.

What are a few interesting things about you?

Some interesting things about me are:

  • I got bit by a spider on a school trip.
  • I watched my Uncle Ben get mugged while exploring my new powers that I got from the aforementioned spider.
  • And lastly, I wrestle Bone Saw in a cage match for the ages

What brought you to Cartel?

I came to Cartel eight and half years ago! I had just moved to town and I was on the hunt for good coffee and came across Cartel. I bothered the manager everyday for three months until he finally broke down and hired me.

What's your perspective on Cartel, your community, and the industry as a whole?

The first thing I look for when I visit a new place is specialty coffee, because coffee people are my people. Coffee shops are where I go when I need comfort in the form of a warm brew and a kind word. My hope for the coffee community is that we continue to move towards equity, inclusion, and abundance for the marginalized groups that have been historically shut out of having a voice in our community.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is the people that I get to work with and the community that we foster.

What are your aspirations for the future?

In the future, I would like to eat a California burrito by the ocean, while my robot butler makes me a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade.

What is your favorite beverage?

My favorite beverage is pour over of one of our single origin coffees, brewed with love.

Next time you pay a visit to our Tempe location, say hello to Laurel!
