Summary

As a Store Lead, you’ll be the driving force behind your café’s success—leading a team, creating an incredible customer experience, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. You’ll set the tone for hospitality, coffee education, and community engagement while keeping an eye on store performance and growth.

This role is about more than just managing a store—it’s about fostering a culture where both employees and customers feel connected to Cartel’s mission. You’ll lead by example behind the bar, support your team’s development, and make sure every cup of coffee and every interaction reflects our standards.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, schedule, and support the café team to create a great work environment.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with staff, including quarterly and annual conversations, plus coaching as needed.
  • Train new hires and provide ongoing education to keep the team sharp.
  • Ensure top-tier product quality and customer experiences that reflect Cartel standards.
  • Stay hands-on behind the bar, working as a barista and leading by example.
  • Take orders, prepare drinks, and serve customers with exceptional hospitality.
  • Handle daily cash operations, including deposits, bank runs, and maintaining store cash integrity.
  • Monitor sales, labor costs, and inventory to keep the café running efficiently.
  • Track store performance, analyze budgets, and adjust as needed to hit goals.
  • Order coffee, dry goods, and other supplies while managing vendor relationships.
  • Lead and participate in team meetings, store events, and company-wide initiatives.
  • Oversee payroll processing, review hours and tips, and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Help shape and enforce store policies while fostering a positive workplace.
  • Engage with the local community through outreach and events.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: Two years of barista experience and one year in a leadership role. If you have similar experience, we’d love to hear from you!
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to obtain an MCESD Food Manager Certification (we can help with this!).
  • Strong communication skills—written and verbal.
  • Comfortable using Google Workspace or Microsoft applications.
  • Basic math skills for handling transactions and inventory.
  • A customer-focused mindset—ready to assess needs, provide great service, and solve problems.
  • An understanding of sales and product promotion (or a willingness to learn!).
  • Active listening skills and the ability to recognize and troubleshoot potential issues.
