Located in the coffee-producing region of Sideman, Qonqana Station in Ethiopia collaborates directly with smallholder producers for coffee milling and export with support from Daye Bensa, the Ethiopian exporting entity. It’s named after a river running through two washing stations, known as the ‘Mother Station’ among locals. Asefa Dukamo, the mill’s owner, grew up in a coffee-growing family and began supplying neighboring washing stations with cherries from his family’s farm and nearby sources in his teens. Noticing a lack of nearby washing stations, Dukamo established his own station to reduce travel time for local coffee producers.
