Meet Rae Wilson, a barista at our Coronado location! Did you know you can browse a variety of Rae’s artwork throughout the cafe? Learn a little more about this amazing and talented human below!
What are a few interesting things about you?
I am a painter, tattooer, and biker.
What brought you to Cartel?
The core values and vision for the employee experience on display at Cartel were very attractive. I am in my 2nd month with Cartel.
What’s your perspective on Cartel, your community, and the industry as a whole?
I think that one of the things that sets Cartel aside from other coffee shops I have worked at is the intentional act of drink preparation. It’s easy to go to a big brand, quick coffee shop and order your usual, so it feels very special to interact with customers who enjoy a traditional drink and/or want to know the flavor profile of their coffee. The Specialty coffee industry can be a little intimidating, but across culture and socioeconomic status we all love our coffee.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite thing about my job is talking to customers! I really enjoy getting to know people through their orders. Sometimes you experience someone pre-coffee, and by the time they leave they’re a brand new person. I love that.
What are your aspirations for the future?
I hope to continue my art practice with gallery exhibits, and I would love to continue my tattoo education. I look forward to creative growth.
What is your favorite beverage?
Cafe co Miel.
Don’t forget to say hello to Rae next time you see them!
