Numilk: A Journey to a More Sustainable Cartel Roasting Co.

The world around us is ever-changing, and it’s up to us to adapt. While we don’t have the power to solve all the environmental challenges that lay before us, we can recognize our organization’s impact on the planet and create a plan of action to lessen it.

In 2023, we’ve made it our objective to become a more sustainable operation. Recently, we set foot on a path in the right direction and found a solution to help eliminate waste: Numilk. As seen on Shark Tank and voted Best New Product at the Specialty Coffee Expo, this incredible company invented alternative milk-making machines for in-home and professional use. After pairing our coffee with their product, making tasting adjustments to meet our liking, then training our staff on using the Numilk machines, we now offer an organic oat and cashew milk in all CRC cafes. These alt milks are made daily and free of gums, fillers, processed sweeteners, and preservatives. Each year we utilize Numilk at Cartel, we’ll reduce our emissions by ~18.22 tons, and eliminate ~13,000 pounds in packaging waste. For us, the decision to make this switch was a no brainer. And, with the growing demand for plant-based alt milk, we knew it was something we should implement for the health of our stores and especially for the health of the planet.
