Humans of Cartel: Paul Oberg

For this edition of “Humans of Cartel”, let’s meet our talented Production Manager & Green Buyer of Cartel coffee, Paul Oberg! He’s a new addition to the Cartel team, and we’re stoked to have him here. Join us as we take a closer look at the skills and expertise he brings to our organization. We can’t wait to share his passion for coffee with you all!

What brought you to Cartel coffee?

New opportunity and career advancement.

What’s your perspective on Cartel, your community, and the industry as a whole?

Cartel is the ORIGINAL specialty coffee in Phoenix, if I’m not mistaken, so it’s awesome to be able to take part in something that has helped pave the way for the rest of the specialty coffee market here in Phoenix. The coffee community here is pretty close and we all seem to help each other out and I’m starting to see this across the industry as a whole. It seems to be becoming more and more of a community where everyone is helping each other instead of fierce rivalries or people trying to hold onto industry secrets.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

I get to taste coffee for a living and my job takes me around the world. On top of all of that I get to work with so many different walks of life each day that everyday is interesting and you don’t know where the job will take you or who you will end up having a conversation with.

What are your aspirations for the future?

To help bring awareness to the consumer about how much work goes into a cup of coffee as well as helping empower coffee producers and hopefully get to continue to travel and experience what this world has to offer. Hopefully this can all be done with also lending a hand to help conserve mother nature.

What is your favorite beverage?

Either cupping a vast array of coffees or enjoying a V60.
